Yes, you need PED Basic - http://www.allbrands.com/products/abp01060-0165.html It will not work with Vista 64, but with Vista 32 and earlier versions of Windows. Check the specifications on the above site to see if it is compatible with the operating system your PC. You must create a file on the hard disk and name embroidery. This is where you will save downloaded drawings. You can rename the downloaded designs to better recognize what they are. You will not be able to open them with your PC. You can see with DEP. Whenever you add or edit the embroidery, save it to a removable disk (flash drive) or CD. If it crashes, you have your file. You can not use one size larger design without using editing software to split the design into segments that are sewn on one at a time, re-strapping the fabric and the alignment of segments until the design is complete. You need to download in Pes Format, but if you find something that does not come in this format, it can be converted with Pulse Ambassador (a conversion program that you can free download).
