Have you ever made a felt and sequin kit?

I am considering purchasing a felt and sequin kit to make a Christmas tree skirt. The kit says it comes with instructions, and I can read, so I'm hoping I would be able to complete it with no problems. I cross stitch and have dabbled in knitting and crocheting. Having never made one of these kits before, I'm not sure exactly what is involved with this craft. I don't want to spend money if I'm not going to be able to do this. If anyone has done these crafts before, could you please explain what completing these projects involve? Thanks in advance.

I've done a lot of the felt and sequin Xmas stockings and ornament kits. If the tree skirt kit is anything like the stocking and ornament ones, you will not need any special stitch knowledge; They are really easy to make.

The felt will have outlines of the pattern printed on it, you just need to cut it out with scissors. There should be thread, sequins and beads. The sequins are attached by putting a sequin on the felt, running the needle & thread through the hole, through a bead, then push the needle down through the sequin hole and felt again. The bead holds the sequin to the felt (sorry if this sounds dumb, but I wasn't sure if you had done this before). The instructions should have a picture as well. If the kit doesn't come with a needle, you will have to have a needle thin enough to go though the small seed beads that usually come with the kit.

The felt shapes are attached to the main felt base with a basic whip stitch, but it sounds like you have more knowledge, so you could probably use one the fancier stitches you know.

I use the kits as a guideline and add more things as I go along. Buy more or different color sequins from the craft store and sew them on for more sparkle or sew on mini brass Christmas bells. If there is a Santa Claus, buy a small pompom and sew it on so it's more 3-dimensional - that kind of thing. You can also buy felt, cut out shapes or characters and add them to the felt base. The results can be really nice, but it does take a lot of time. Follow the instructions but don't let them limit your creativity.
