Im looking to start sewing, ADVICE on machine to start with.?

Im looking to do some basic pillow case dresses and things. I have 2 lil girls so thats mostly why I want to learn. Any advice on a machine that would be ideal to learn on? I would prefer one with embroidery/monogramming, trying to stay under $300 ,atleast until I see if I can even do it.

I have a $400 embroidering ONLY machine that is a piece of crap. Skip that feature. Most machines that are (1) cheap, and (2) multi-purpose are going to be pieces of crap that will diminish your interest in sewing. In fact, the less bells & whistles, the better. You don't want a machine with a bunch of knobs and settings that complicate things - because when something goes wrong (and it will) you won't know where to look.

If you can't "test drive" one in a specialty store, at least make sure you can return it in 60 days (or whatever). And if you DO test drive one you like, look online for a better price - your local dealer might match it.
