I am wanting to free hand embroider iron-on fabric appliques I have made for shirts! What do I need to do?
I made a cute Minnie Mouse head and bow out of fabric...I ironed it on with sew-n-bond. Now that it's on the shirt I want to embroider around it. What type of stitching do I need to use and anything else you might know to make it easier...I'm new at this and am tired of paying $20-$35 for those cute boutique shirts for my daughter when they look so easy to make...I am kinda crafty and think I can learn it fast..But this is my first time using a sewing machine...Any Help Is Greatly Appreciated!!!
What kind of a stitch do you want to do? Satin stitch, blanket/buttonhole stitch? Both may be done with your sewing machine.
Read and apply. Sit down in front of the sewing machine with the manual.
Test each and every step from bobbin winding through maintenance. This will go quickly and you will learn all the techniques that can be done with the machine.
Before starting any project, set up the stitch feature you will need and then test it on scraps of the same fabric as you will be using in the project.
Because you have used an iron-on adhesive, you should use a Teflon needle. You can use a sewing machine needle or an embroidery machine needle. This type of needle does not heat up like a regular needle. Heat from a regular sewing machine needle will cause the adhesive to soften and gum up the needle and thread. You will only do about two stitches before you have a big mess.
