Replacing Lawn mower string?

I am in the process of replacing my lawnmower string. When I had removed it from the spring loaded spool there was a small staple that holds the end of the string on. Now that I have replaced the string, I can't get the staple back on...I tried to push in back on the best I could and the staple bent. It seems that the string will stay in place regardless. Will it still work the way it is ok?

any time there is a staple its best just to find a way to tie a knot. most recoils have provisions for useing a knot on the spool and handle.
