Modifications on parachute to make it stay longer in air~?
With a plastic sheet that has 900 centimetre square of area, 1 metre of thread and a paperclip, I am supposed to make a parachute~
What modifications can I do to the parachute to make it stay longer in the air and at the mean time, the parachute will only descend in a particular direction?
Well generally the bigger the surface area the slower it will fall due to air resistance although you have to take aerodynamics into account as well which basically means that have a circle as the canopy. This is why they used to use circle canopies in the old days ... If the parachute is moving then its probably gonna fall faster. Because this is how skydivers descend quicker they pull on the left of right toggle which makes them go into a twirl and descend faster.
