Is this illegal? Please help!?

Today my little brother pushed me so I pushed him back. My mom got mad and called me a bully, then she put her fists up and walked toward me like she was gonna punch me. I got scared and backed up and puche her away. We started slapping eachother and trying to punch eachother. She started getting mad and chased me into the bathroom. I ran into the corner near where the towels hang. She came over and said, "how do you like being picked on by a bully?" and she punched me on the right side of my head, knocking my head into a metal towel hanger. She punched me twice more in the head and said,"also Rachel, it's illegal to hit your parents, I could call the cops on you!" I fell on the floor crying and screaming, it hurt so bad! I have three bumps on the right side of my head, and one huge lump on the left (from the hanger). Me and my mom are like the same height and I'm fourteen. Should I call the cops if this happens again? Or can my mom call the cops on me?

Your mother is allowed to physically discipline you. It is not illegal for her to do so.

Frankly, based on what you have described, if the police had been called you almost certainly would have been the person to be arrested. The police report would have indicated that your mother intervened to protect your little brother from being physically assaulted by you and that you initiated physical contact with your mother. Your mother defended herself and took steps to try to convince you that you had better keep your hands to yourself in the future.

That your little brother pushed you first isn't a defense - especially if he is significantly younger than you. That you were afraid that your mother was "gonna punch" you isn't a defense.

This entire incident happened because you failed to keep your hands to yourself. Most police officers are parents and don't have a lot of tolerance for teenagers who think it is okay to slap and try to punch their parents. If your injuries were severe, it would be a different story (because discipline is not about inflicting injuries) but the injuries you describe would be consistent with your mother defending herself against you. Does it sound as though your mother might have gone a little too far? Maybe. But the police would still err on the side of your mother.
